Position Summary: 

The Senior Director, Supplemental Benefits Operations is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Supplemental Benefits team, which includes managing a team of employees, developing and implementing new processes and procedures, and ensuring that the team meets all of its goals and objectives, including providing high-quality and successful benefits to members. The Director will also work closely with other departments within the company to ensure that the Supplemental Benefits team is integrated with the rest of the organization.

The Senior Director, Supplemental Benefits Operations will also lead Alignment Health Plan’s strategy on Supplemental Benefits, Quality, and Experience– establishing and executing strategic roadmaps for Supplemental Benefit partners. These partners include dental, vision, hearing, OTC, or non-emergent transportation benefits, and contribute to the Company’s membership growth, experience, CAHPs and STARS, and overall strategic vision to serve our members. 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of employees responsible for the operation of the Supplemental Benefits program
  • Develop and implement new processes and procedures to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the program, while ensuring that members receive high-quality benefits
  • Use data analytics to identify trends and patterns in member data, measure the effectiveness of existing programs and services, personalize benefits recommendations to individual members, and reduce fraud and abuse
  • Contain vendor costs by negotiating favorable contracts, monitoring vendor performance, and identifying opportunities for cost savings.
  • Manage vendor service level agreements (SLAs) to ensure that vendors are meeting their contractual obligations.
  • Identify and mitigate vendor risks by conducting due diligence on vendors, monitoring vendor performance, and developing contingency plans in case of vendor failure.
  • Assist with risk reduction by developing and implementing risk management policies and procedures, and by conducting regular risk assessments.
  • Work with the technology team to identify and request features that are needed to manage the Supplemental Benefits program
  • Enable call center agents with technology features needed to manage member experience
  • Ensure that the team meets all of its goals and objectives, including meeting all regulatory requirements and providing high-quality and successful benefits to members
  • Work closely with other departments within the company to ensure that the Supplemental Benefits team is integrated with the rest of the organization and that members have a seamless experience
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key vendors and partners
  • Represent the company at industry events and conferences

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly oversees department staff in respective units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organization policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include training of employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; assisting in the rewarding and disciplining of assigned employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems as they pertain to respective units. 

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, healthcare administration, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in managing a team of employees
  • 5+ years of experience in the Medicare Advantage industry, with a focus on supplemental benefits
  • Strong knowledge of Medicare Advantage regulations and best practices for providing high-quality benefits to members
  • Experience with data analytics tools and techniques
  • Experience with vendor management and contract negotiation
  • Experience with risk management
  • Experience working with technology teams to identify and request features
  • Experience enabling call center agents with technology features
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
