Position Summary:

The Senior Manager, Accounting is a newly created position that will report directly to the Senior Director, Accounting. The ideal candidate will be an energetic, creative thinker, and solutions-oriented team member who will work closely with the Senior Director, Accounting in performing the month end close process within the required deadlines.

The Senior Manager, Accounting will mentor and provide leadership to a team of two to three junior staff members during the month end close process and assist junior staff members in resolving issues and improve processes where possible for greater efficiency.  This position is based out of the corporate headquarters in Orange, CA, with the ability to work remotely approximately 50% of the time. 

This role will interact and be highly visible to executives in all departments throughout the Company and will be a critical member of our growing and high-performing accounting team. 

General Duties/Responsibilities (May include but are not limited to):

The responsibilities of the Senior Manager, Accounting may include, but are not limited to:

-          Supervise junior staff members

o   Manage staff member capacity and workload allocation

o   Review journal entries during month end close process

o   Review of balance sheet reconciliations

o   Assist in resolving issues/questions

-          Ensure timeliness, quality, and completeness of assigned month end close tasks

-          Assist Senior Director, Accounting in partnering with other departments to provide guidance on accounting-related projects

-          Monitor and ensure that all SOX controls are performed according to the control language and frequency of the control for the Accounting department

-          Assist Senior Director, Accounting with maintaining the chart of accounts and general ledger, thus, ensuring that all transactions are properly recorded and classified

-          Assist with collecting supporting documentation for audit (SOX, quarterly review, annual audit, compliance audit, etc.)

-          Assist with certain accounts payable functions and tasks, including daily cash reconciliation

-          Identify opportunities for accounting process improvement and implement changes to increase efficiency and effectiveness

-          Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with accounting rules and regulatory requirements

-          Prepare and/or review monthly internal financial statements and other reports for management  

-          Oversee regulatory filing process

o   Detail review of junior staff member and statutory consultant work

o   Coordinate with various departments on information/data needed to prepare filings

o   Coordinate signatures and mailings of periodic filings

o   Ensure timely submission of prepared files to consultants for reporting

o   Prepare and monitor calculations related to capital needs of the health plans

 

Supervisory Requirements:

The Senior Manager, Accounting will supervise two to three staff accountants.

Minimum Requirements:

·         Minimum Experience:

a.       Minimum 8-10 years accounting experience required

b.       3-4 years of public accountant experience required

·         Education/Licensure:

a.       Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business is required

b.       Certified Public Accountant license is required

·         Other:

a.       Experience with systems for fixed assets, accounts payable, expense reporting and general ledger accounting systems such as Microsoft Dynamics, preferred but not required.

b.       Experience and knowledge with statutory accounting principals

c.       SOX internal control assessments (Section 404) experience

d.       Intermediate proficiency in Excel

e.       Proficiency in Microsoft Word

f.        Ability to interact with different levels (from staff to executives) of personnel throughout the organization

g.       Willingness and capability to learn new things quickly.

h.       Technology and automated solutions oriented
